Philanthropy
In 2004, Kappa Kappa Gamma adopted Reading is Fundamental, Inc. (RIF), as its national philanthropy. RIF works to build a literate nation by helping young people discover the joy of reading. RIF's highest priority is to serve the nation's under-privileged children and families through the development and delivery of literacy programs and campaigns that motivate youth to read regularly.
By winning first place in Derby Days, a philanthropy sponsored by Sigma Chi fraternity, Beta Omicron was able to donate half of the overall proceeds to RIF.
At Kappa, we place the highest regard for philanthropy and contributing to the livelihood of the New Orleans community. Individually, Kappas spend their free time rebuilding schools, gutting houses, volunteering at the animal shelter, and keeping the city clean. We instill community appreciation in our members by sponsoring and supporting events, such as Kappa Kar Wash, on the Tulane campus.

Some of our many events include Kappa Kollection, a charity shopping event that raised over $5,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Last fall, Kappa Kappa Gamma and Kappa Alpha Fraternity joined together and raised $1,000 for Race for the Cure, a 5K run/walk through City Park, which raises funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer. In addition, Kappas have raised over $8,000 for the American Cancer Society through our fraternity participation in Relay for Life, and we also raised $7,000 for ovarian cancer research.
